Eco Friendly Swap: Ditch the Plastic While Staying Hydrated On the Go

You NEED water to function

Just like the cucumbers in my garden, you need sunlight….and WATER. Like, a lot of water. The general rule of thumb is: one half of your body weight in ounces. For example; if you weigh 100 pounds – because that’s easy math – you need to drink 50 ounces of water – every day – to function at your optimum level.

Water makes your entire body feel so much better. Your joints, your muscles, your BRAIN, your energy levels, and mood are significantly better off when you are fully hydrated. Your skin and your hair even LOOK better when you get enough water. So make sure you’re getting enough!

The best way to keep drinking that H2O is to keep it with you at all times. I don’t ever leave my house without water. I keep it by my bed and chug it first thing in the morning. I literally don’t ever NOT have a thermos full of ice water within my reach.

So how can we make it as easy as possible to hit your daily water goal? You can’t very well carry a glass around the grocery store with you. I mean I guess you could…..but that seems inconvenient.

Plastic Water Bottles?

In this day and age, I don’t need to talk to you about the prevalence of single use plastics in our world, and what they are doing to our environment. I don’t need to tell you that when you throw things away….there’s no such thing as “away.” It all goes somewhere. If we’re lucky it just sits – piling ever higher – in a landfill. Except that it doesn’t…. It makes its way to our waterways. It pollutes our roads, destroys habitats, fills our oceans, and contaminates our drinking water.

Or what about the fact that only 23% of plastic water bottles actually even make it to a recycling center. And from there, only fraction get turned into new water bottles.

I don’t need to tell you that though..

Because the mere fact that you’re here, tells me you are a brilliant human who already knows this and you are here to cut to the chase, and see my easy eco friendly swaps for ditching bottled water.

Stainless Steel Bottles

Stainless steel is my favorite because it can hold hot or cold liquids and maintain temps for extended periods. It’s easy to recycle. And unlike reusable plastic bottles, stainless steel does not leach into your liquids and is much safer for your health.

Yeti Rambler

Yeti Ramblers are kind of the go-to when it comes to stainless steel thermoses. I almost always have one of these filled with ice water and a silicone straw.

Corkcicle Canteen

I love these Corkcicle canteens because the screw on top means I can easily stick one in my purse or diaper bag without worrying about spilling. They come in a wide variety of colors, and stay cool for a whopping 25 hours or 12 hours hot.

Reusable Straws

I don’t know about you….but I drink MUCH more water when I use a straw. And they are so much easier for young kids. Having reusable straws at home and to take on the go for when we’re out at a restaurant has been a HUGE help in limiting our plastic straw use. You can reduce waste and still enjoy a straw with one of these eco friendly options.

Silicone Straws

I love silicone straws because they are soft and easy for the kids to use without the risk of stabbing themselves. We’ve experience cut lips with stainless straws, so for the sake of the kiddos, I only use the soft silicone ones.

Stainless Steel Straws

The stainless straws are wonderful because steel is so easy to recycle when they reach the end of their life – which they last forever and are even more durable than the silicone option.

So Do It!

There’s absolutely no reason you can’t stay hydrated while ditching the single use plastic! Choose one of these eco friendly options instead. Have you said “goodbye forever” to plastic straws and water bottles yet?
