Pastured Pork from The Little Green Wagon

We would absolutely love to fill your freezer this year with delicious pastured pork from The Little Green Wagon. It is our mission to raise these pigs in the best way possible: with healthy food, plenty of ability to forage through a nutrient dense green pasture, piles of naturally grown veggies and pumpkins, and a whole lotta love. These pigs bring us so much joy, and I hope we are successful at providing the same in return. They frolick and play, basking in the sun, or rolling in a nice mud wallow. We take our role as their caretakers very seriously, and strongly strive to give them the best life possible, with just one bad day.

About Our Pigs

We are so excited to be working with a new breeder for 2024, who is in tune with our desires in breeds and overall end product! We are happy to establish a longterm relationship in bringing the highest quality pigs to our farm – and in turn, you! As a mix of Duroc, Yorkshire, and Landrace, our pigs have wonderful flavor and dark meat. Landrace is a new addition to our breeding stock for 2024, they have a longer frame which will hopefully translate to longer loins, more ribs, and more bacon. While most pigs have 13 ribs, the Landrace typically have 16.

Our happy hogs are rotationally grazed on roughly 4 acres of lush pasture. Here they enjoy munching on various clovers, alfalfa, peas, hairy vetch, buckwheat, and oats. They also find yummy treats in the grove, picking through wild raspberries and mulberries that drop seasonally. As well as piles of culled veggies from our large garden and pumpkins.

In addition, they have free access to commercial feed to ensure their solid growth and nutrition.

With freedom to run, dig, and roll in the mud, our happy hogs produce a leaner more flavorful meat. Pastured pork is darker in color that commercially raised hogs, with less fat as they are encourage to use their muscles. Because of this, we recommend not over-cooking it. This is how pigs were meant to grow – and this is how pork was meant to taste. I didn’t know how good bacon truly was until I tried ours!

Pricing

$2.65 per pound of hanging weight

How does that break down?

Whole hog: Our sizing goal is 300 pounds live weight at time of butcher. That translates to roughly 200 pounds of hanging weight, but can range from 180-210 pounds. This means you pay $477-$556 for the pig. Plus processing fees to the butcher. This is roughly around $320 depending on what you choose. For example smoking your ham obviously costs more than not.

Half hog: Our halves typically come in around 90-105 pounds. Which means you pay $238-$278 for the pig. Plus processing fees to the butcher. This is roughly around $160 depending on what you choose. For example smoking your ham obviously costs more than not.

Our happy pigs are raised free to run, play and dig – which means they are not uniform in size from pig to pig. There will be slight variances in weight, and how they carry that weight.
